Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How should I Dress for a Paragliding Flight in Chamonix?
How should I Dress for a Paragliding Flight in Chamonix?
In summer, we recommend you come with trousers and a windbreaker. While it's possible to fly in a t-shirt and shorts, it's not recommended. The temperature drops by about 1°C for every 100 meters of altitude gained. A paraglider flies at an average of 40 km/h: you'll never be too hot in the air, and you can change as soon as you land.
In winter, we advise you to dress as you would for skiing: ski pants and a down jacket, for example.
In all cases, hiking shoes, or at least good sneakers, are essential. We also recommend you bring your sunglasses to protect yourself from the wind (no, they won't fall off). We provide the helmet and all the necessary safety equipment, checked and serviced, for your paragliding flight in Chamonix.
You can bring a small backpack (or other), but its volume must be limited to 10 liters.
How to get to the Starting Point?
How to get to the Starting Point?
The meeting point with our pilots is at the departure of the gondola or cable car, just in front of the ski lift entrance: either Planpraz/Brévent (most of the time), or Plan de l'Aiguille/Aiguille du midi.
Click on the link to access the corresponding map on Google Maps.
You received the precise details, as well as a map, in your booking confirmation email: remember to check it.
We ask you to “arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled time”. Please also plan to purchase your lift ticket in advance: a one-way ticket to the intermediate station.
Upon the paragliding pilots' arrival, they will call you by name. If they can't find you, they will contact you by phone or WhatsApp.
Parking lots for your car are available near the lifts. Municipal buses are also available at regular times: inquire on the dedicated Chamonix Bus website.
Depending on weather conditions, pilots may have been delayed during the previous takeoff. Don't worry: they're on their way!
Do I Need Insurance?
Do I Need Insurance?
All our pilots have the mandatory insurance for paragliding, including coverage for tandem activity, even for the passenger. Therefore, no additional insurance is necessary.
Can I Pay in Cash? With Chèques Vacances?
Can I Pay in Cash? With Chèques Vacances?
We accept payments in cash, by bank card (CB), by bank transfer (in advance), and with Chèques Vacances.
We also accept payments in certain cryptocurrencies.
For any other payment method, please contact us.
Why do I have to pay for a lift ticket?
Why do I have to pay for a lift ticket?
The Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, which manages the Chamonix ski lifts, is independent of the paragliding schools and instructors in the valley.
That's why we cannot include the price of tickets in our service.
Therefore, we ask you to purchase your tickets (one-way to the intermediate station) in advance upon your arrival at the meeting point, which is at the departure of the gondolas.
The price of a one-way ticket is approximately €20 for an adult.
Do I Need Prior Experience to Fly Paragliding?
Do I Need Prior Experience to Fly Paragliding?
No, no experience, even athletic, is necessary for a tandem paragliding flight. However, good physical condition is useful for the takeoff run (about 20 meters to run). Accessible from 4 to 99 years old!
After takeoff, you will be comfortably seated and will have nothing to do but enjoy the flight and let yourself go in contemplation.
What is the paragliding takeoff like?
What is the paragliding takeoff like?
After equipping you and checking your safety, the pilot will give you some tips to facilitate the paragliding takeoff. The main one is to be steady on your feet: we take off standing! A short run of 10 or 20 meters and you'll be in the air before you even realize it. Your pilot will probably advise you to keep running into the void for the first few meters of the flight. Then he will help you get comfortably seated.
That's it! Anyone can experience the joys of tandem paragliding.
What is the paragliding landing like?
What is the paragliding landing like?
Your pilot will show you the correct posture to adopt a little before the end of the flight. But rest assured, it's child's play. Landing happens at a very gentle, sometimes even zero, speed. In the worst case, it's like jumping off a stool!
What is the paragliding flight like?
What is the paragliding flight like?
We fly for you! You have nothing to do but let your mind wander and enjoy the sensations above Chamonix, comfortably settled into what will feel like a flying sofa. Depending on how comfortable you feel, the pilot can make the flight a little longer or, on the contrary, shorten it, to offer you the most suitable—and most beautiful—experience possible. They may even suggest a short piloting lesson or a few aerial manoeuvres for those who are keen on thrills.
How long does the paragliding flight in Chamonix last?
How long does the paragliding flight in Chamonix last?
Between 15 and 25 minutes for a standard flight.
Between 30 and 45 minutes for an XL flight.
Between 45 minutes and just over an hour for an XXL flight.
Please note, however, that the flight duration depends on the day's weather conditions and your comfort in the air.
The total time for the rotation (from meeting time to landing) is approximately 45 minutes for a standard flight.
Is paragliding dangerous? What about safety?
Is paragliding dangerous? What about safety?
No. Our pilots will tell you that paragliding is not a dangerous sport.
It's a risky sport. The difference? Risk can be managed, provided you have experience and a clear head.
In tandem paragliding, our pilots take extremely high safety margins. As fathers for the most part, they wouldn't do this job if it were dangerous.
Furthermore, they are all State-certified, with recent and regularly serviced equipment, and up-to-date with their mandatory insurance contributions.
So don't be afraid anymore, and come try one of the most beautiful experiences you can live: Icarus' dream, above the majestic Mont-Blanc valley in Chamonix, accompanied by experienced pilots, each with over 20 years of experience!
Is there a Weight Limit?
Is there a Weight Limit?
Simple answer: no.
Detailed answer: no, but...
Between 20 and 100 kg, all pilots will agree to take you.
Details: if you weigh less than 50kg, we will ask you to choose a morning slot, before noon, as conditions are milder. If you weigh more than 90 kg, on the contrary, we will ask you to choose an afternoon flight slot, as the more dynamic conditions help us with takeoff.
Under 20 kg, it all depends on the equipment we have available: a harness (special for small children) and a paraglider smaller than usual tandems are needed, and the flight will take place early in the morning.
Over 100 kg, a minimum of wind is necessary and sometimes assistance with takeoff, the flight will take place after 1 PM.
In all cases, if you weigh less than 20 kg or more than 100 kg, please contact us before making any reservation.
Is there a Height Limit?
Is there a Height Limit?
No, there is no height limit for a paragliding maiden flight.
Is there an age limit for paragliding?
Is there an age limit for paragliding?
No, anyone, regardless of their age, is able to take a tandem paragliding flight. We have flown children as young as 3 years old as well as adults over 90 years old, always with the same safety requirements as with any other passenger.
For minors, parental authorization is required, as well as the minor's willingness.
However, we advise parents against flying children under 4 years old, simply because they do not yet have the maturity to fully enjoy the flight.
Do I Need to be in a Particular Physical Condition to Take a Maiden Flight?
Do I Need to be in a Particular Physical Condition to Take a Maiden Flight?
No: as long as you can stand and run a few meters (see below in the FAQ for the specific case of motor disabilities), you are fit for tandem paragliding.
Why Do You Ask for My Weight and Height?
Why Do You Ask for My Weight and Height?
Your height and weight are necessary for several reasons:
- Choice of equipment to use for the flight
- Choice of pilot who will fly with you
- Choice of time slot (lighter individuals in the morning, heavier ones in the afternoon).
Be honest and do not lie about your measurements; your safety depends on it. The information you provide us is confidential and will remain so.
Can I Offer a Paragliding Maiden Flight to My 4-Year-Old Child?
Can I Offer a Paragliding Maiden Flight to My 4-Year-Old Child?
Yes, as long as parental consent is validated and the child's willingness is acquired.
We regularly fly children aged 4 and up, and the experience is most often magical.
I Am Pregnant, Can I Fly?
I Am Pregnant, Can I Fly?
This is the only exception to our welcome: regulations prohibit us from taking pregnant women paragliding. We thank you for your understanding.
What if I Have a Disability?
What if I Have a Disability?
It all depends on your disability. Some of our pilots have the Hand'icare certification to take passengers with motor disabilities, with the help of special equipment.
Affected individuals are asked to contact us before any reservation.
I Have Vertigo, is it Compatible with a Paragliding Flight?
I Have Vertigo, is it Compatible with a Paragliding Flight?
Yes!
Many of our passengers apprehend heights. And yet, once in the air, they express no particular fear.
Unlike being on the edge of a precipice, where your sense of touch (feet and hands) contradicts your sight and creates that sensation of vertigo in your brain, this is not the case in paragliding.
If you can look out the window without feeling dizzy when you fly, then it will be the same when paragliding: once the (normal) anxiety of takeoff has passed, you will be overwhelmed by the pleasure of paragliding, comfortably seated in your harness. Furthermore, your pilot will reassure you throughout the flight, and can shorten its duration if you are not 100% comfortable.
I get Seasick / Airsick, Can I Fly?
I get Seasick / Airsick, Can I Fly?
Yes.
However, we invite you to inform your pilot before takeoff. He can then adapt his piloting to minimize the consequential and normal movements during a paragliding flight. Similarly, if air sickness were to occur, he could shorten the flight by accelerating the return to solid ground to offer you a pleasant and memorable experience.
Small tip: if you are prone to motion sickness or air sickness, we advise you, before the flight, to ask a pharmacy for an over-the-counter medication, to be taken a few minutes before the flight, to help you fully enjoy this wonderful experience. The flight only lasts about twenty minutes and this solution will most often block any sensations of nausea during this time, allowing you to fully experience paragliding in Chamonix.
What should I do if I want to reschedule or cancel my flight?
What should I do if I want to reschedule or cancel my flight?
It is possible to cancel or reschedule a tandem paragliding flight up to 48 hours before the scheduled date.
It is sometimes possible to reschedule the flight within these 48 hours, but we cannot guarantee it.
In all cases, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can review and validate your request.
What Happens in Case of Bad Weather? Do I get a Refund?
What Happens in Case of Bad Weather? Do I get a Refund?
In case of cancellation by the pilot or the paragliding school due to weather unsuitable for safe paragliding, you can request to postpone or cancel the flight.
If you choose to cancel, you will be fully refunded.
Please note, however, that the pilot alone decides whether or not to cancel the flight, taking into account the safety margins necessary for a paragliding flight with a passenger.
As paragliders like to say, “it's better to regret being on the ground than to regret being in the air”.
What is the Best Time for a Tandem Paragliding Flight in Chamonix?
What is the Best Time for a Tandem Paragliding Flight in Chamonix?
It all depends 😉
For a first flight, if you are not particularly fond of thrills, we recommend doing it in the morning, before noon: calm conditions guarantee a smooth and contemplative flight. It's often a long, calm glide until landing.
In the afternoon, conditions are generally more “sporty”. For those who want a flight that lasts a little longer, or allows us to gain altitude, or who want a little more thrills, this is ideal!
Note that children and light weights (under 50kg) are strongly encouraged to book for the morning. Afternoon conditions are sometimes too strong, especially in summer, to ensure the flight without a minimum weight.
Conversely, we recommend that “heavier” individuals (90kg and over) book for the afternoon.
Is it Possible to Fly in Winter?
Is it Possible to Fly in Winter?
Absolutely!
FLYddiction offers tandem paragliding flights all year round!
In winter, conditions are very often still ideal for paragliding. The scenery is then radically different from what you see in summer (and different again in spring or autumn). An absolute must-do experience if you've already enjoyed a tandem flight in summer!
Remember to dress warmly and wear appropriate footwear.
Can We Take Photos or Videos During the Flight?
Can We Take Photos or Videos During the Flight?
Yes, but...
Your equipment must be secured, at a minimum by a strap strong enough on your wrist (or elsewhere) to ensure it won't slip. A phone or action camera falling could have dramatic, even fatal, consequences for people on the ground.
The pilot reserves the right to refuse the use of any device or object during the flight.
Your pilot also has a latest-generation action camera and will be happy to take 360° video and photo shots during the flight. However, remember to ask him for this option BEFORE takeoff.
What is the Photos and Video Option?

What are the Best Times to Fly in Chamonix?
What are the Best Times to Fly in Chamonix?
It all depends on what you are looking for.
To contemplate the landscapes, some of our pilots will tell you that spring or autumn are the most beautiful seasons for paragliding in Chamonix. Magnificent light and colors! It is also permitted during these periods to fly on the Mont-Blanc side and overfly the Bossons glacier: memorable!
Other pilots of ours will only swear by summer: summer conditions indeed allow for long flights and gaining altitude like no other season! For thrill-seekers, or those who want a breathtaking experience at over 3000 meters altitude, it's the perfect season.
Finally, everyone will agree that winter and the all-white blanket it brings to the Chamonix valley offer an extraordinary contemplative spectacle. A visual scene you won't find anywhere else or in any other season.
The best answer? Try one flight per season 🙂 No two flights will be the same, and all will leave you with an unforgettable memory!
